Earlier this year my father purchased a 2004 MK3 Ford Mondeo Estate Ghia with the Duratorq 2.0 TDCi 115hp engine. The car had done 110,000 when he bought it and had a full Ford service history. Seemed like a good buy and I recommended it to him and even lent him some cash for it. But it's been a heap of trouble, it's had the following problems;

I have a 2006 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI. When i keep a steady speed the engine chugs and the rev gauge jumps up and down. I took it to my local ford garage and they found oil in the MAF sensor and cleaned it out. For a few weeks it was running fine until it slowly got back to the way it was.

Thanks for that, I had considered getting one of those. My Renault DCi has got one built in and I changed the fuel filter on that no problem. Have you actually used one of these on a 1.6TDCi with success?
We have heard of a few people complaining about some Focus 1.6 TDCI turbo problems. The 1.6 TDCI engine is also used in other vehicles including Volvo, Suzuki, Peugeot, Mini, and Ford. But one of the most commonly affected models is the Ford Focus that uses this engine.
It'll probably start fine with just a second or two of ignition before starting. The plugs don't heat from opening the door. On modern petrols the in-tank pump starts from opening the door which may be where the confusion came from. The 1.6 TDCi uses an electronic EGR valve.
